Contrary to popular belief, a recent study actually shows that obese patients who got a tummy tuck despite their high BMIs improved their quality of life.
According to the study, “Abdominoplasty in the Overweight and Obese Population: Outcomes and Patient Satisfaction,” 97% of the 46 patients said they were happy with their tummy tuck results and won’t hesitate to do it again. They also claimed that the procedure improved their lifestyles and even prompted them to lose additional weight after surgery.
Around 39% developed complications, but they were easily manageable with antibiotics and office procedures.
Granted that there’s a high risk for post-operative complications among overweight and obese plastic surgery patients, the fact remains that an “overwhelming majority” of them were satisfied with the results of their abdominoplasty.
